Dr. Muhammad Zaeem Zia, (Former District Health Officer Islamabad ) a Fulbright Scholar and graduate of the University of Oklahoma, serves as the District Health Officer (DHO) of Islamabad. With a strong background in public health, research, and multicultural healthcare systems, Dr. Zia has played a transformative role in advancing Islamabad’s healthcare landscape. Guided by the principle: “The best among you is the one who benefits people,” he remains committed to improving healthcare access, infrastructure, and outcomes for all residents.
Over the last four years, Dr. Zia has overseen significant improvements in the city’s healthcare infrastructure and the upgradation of health facilities, ensuring better service delivery at the primary care level. This includes modernizing health centers, enhancing medical equipment, and integrating innovative technologies for efficient service provision. Under his leadership, the merger of the Population and Health Departments and advancements in health data management and statistics have further strengthened Islamabad’s healthcare system, with strategic oversight from the Ministry of National Health Services, Regulations, and Coordination.
Dr. Zia has been pivotal in Islamabad’s mass COVID-19 response, spearheading vaccination campaigns to make the city one of Pakistan’s first fully vaccinated regions. He has also driven efforts to combat endemic diseases such as polio and dengue, alongside enforcing stringent hygiene standards in food establishments. Additionally, his supervision of the regulation of pharmacies, medical stores, and the elimination of quackery has ensured a healthcare system rooted in ethics and effectiveness.Through his visionary leadership, Dr. Zia has enhanced infrastructure development, upgraded health facilities, and significantly bolstered Islamabad’s public health framework. His contributions have improved the quality of life for residents and established a resilient healthcare system that continues to deliver long-term benefits.
