The District Health Office Islamabad, under the Ministry of National Health Services, Regulations & Coordination, has operationalized telemedicine services in Basic Health Units (BHUs) as part of a digital health transformation initiative led by Federal Health Minister Syed Mustafa Kamal in collaboration with Sehat Kahani. In line with digital healthcare expansion, an MoU was signed to launch telemedicine services in six health facilities with the objective of providing audio and video-based online medical consultations to patients in remote and underserved areas. Telemedicine services have been inaugurated at BHU Gokina on 06 January 2026 with 503 consultations, followed by BHU Bhimber on 14 January 2026 with 190 consultations, and BHU Bhukkar on 27 January 2026 with 199 consultations, while additional facilities including Gokina, Chukkar, Bhimber, and Tara are also functional. Overall, 892 consultations were conducted within a short operational period, reflecting strong community acceptance. Gender-wise analysis shows that 623 consultations (around 70%) were for female patients, while 261 (around 30%) were for male patients, highlighting improved access to healthcare for women, particularly in areas with mobility and socio-cultural barriers.
