MNCH is a healthcare focus area dedicated to improving the health and well-being of mothers, newborns, and children by providing services like prenatal care, safe childbirth, postnatal care, immunizations, and child nutrition.

Previously, the region had a limited number of Basic Health Units, offering only primary-level care with restricted hours and minimal resources. Recognizing the need for a more robust healthcare network, plans were proposed to upgrade the existing Mother and Child Health Center (MCH Center) into a fully functional secondary care Mother and Child Health Hospital (MCHH), providing around-the-clock mid-level secondary care. The new MCHH, based in Gohra Shahan, Humak, was set to operate as a mid-level secondary referral hospital following the standards established by the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa health department. It would offer specialized services in gynecology, pediatrics, radiology, and reproductive health, staffed by a diverse team of paramedical and non-paramedical professionals. A strong emphasis was placed on equal employment opportunities for women, supporting a skilled workforce while advancing local health standards. As part of a larger network, this facility would be closely linked with smaller MCH and Well Baby Clinics across 20 upgraded health facilities. This network would establish a seamless referral system connecting the primary units with three main hospitals located in Bhadana Kalan, Gohra Shahan, and Barakau. Through this integrated approach, the network aimed to provide comprehensive antenatal, natal, postnatal, and emergency services, ensuring that mothers and children across the region received continuous and accessible care. This transformative plan sought to fill a significant gap in the healthcare infrastructure, elevating the region’s capacity to meet the essential health needs of mothers and children.
