Mobile Health Screening Unit (MHSU) Program
The Mobile Health Screening Unit (MHSU) is a flagship outreach initiative of the District Health Office (DHO) Islamabad aimed at improving access to essential healthcare services for underserved and hard-to-reach communities. The program addresses barriers such as distance, limited transportation, and financial constraints by delivering healthcare services directly to rural populations.
With technical and operational support from Dopasi, Marie Stopes Society, UNICEF, WHO, and FDI, MHSU camps are organized 7–11 times each month at various locations across Islamabad. In 2025, the DHO conducted 59 Mobile Health Screening Unit camps, serving communities in Tarlai, Sohan, Golra, Shah Allah Ditta, Bhara Kahu, Kuri, Rawat, and other underserved areas.
The Mobile Health Screening Unit Program aims to:
- Improve access to primary healthcare services in underserved communities.
- Provide early screening, diagnosis, and treatment of common diseases.
- Strengthen maternal and child health services.
- Promote family planning and reproductive health.
- Expand immunization coverage.
- Improve nutritional status through counselling and supplementation.
- Increase awareness of preventive healthcare and healthy lifestyles.
Healthcare Services Provided
General Medical Care
Qualified Medical Officers provide:
- General health examinations
- Diagnosis and treatment of common illnesses
- Basic medicines and follow-up referrals
- Health education and counselling
Maternal & Child Health Services
The program provides comprehensive maternal and child healthcare, including:
- Antenatal care (ANC)
- Postnatal care (PNC)
- Pregnancy monitoring
- Nutrition counselling for mothers
- Newborn care guidance
- Child health assessments
- Routine immunization services
- Polio vaccination
Family Planning & Reproductive Health
Family planning services include:
- Family planning counselling
- Reproductive health education
- Free contraceptive services
- Referral for specialized reproductive healthcare
These services help improve maternal health and support informed reproductive choices
Nutrition Services
Nutrition interventions include:
- Nutrition screening
- Maternal nutrition counselling
- Infant and Young Child Feeding (IYCF) counselling
- Distribution of nutritional supplements
In 2025, nutritional supplements were provided to 480 mothers and children.
Diagnostic & Screening Services
To support early disease detection, MHSU camps offer:
- Malaria testing
- Tuberculosis (TB) screening
- Blood Sugar Random (BSR)
- Urine Pregnancy Test (UPT)
- Hemoglobin & Complete Blood Count (HB/CBC)
- Dengue screening
- HIV screening
- Hepatitis C (HCV) screening
During 2025, diagnostic and screening services were provided to 4,175 patients.
